Flip for detailsEnrolling thousands of people a day — many of them first-timers with no experience using biometric devices — demands a scanner that is fast, forgiving, and impossible to use incorrectly. The CMITECH BMT-20 was designed exactly for that reality. Battle-tested in India's UID/Aadhaar programme, one of the largest biometric enrollment drives in human history, it has captured irises of children as young as five and elderly subjects with challenging eye conditions, consistently delivering image quality that exceeds ISO/IEC 19794-6 standards.
The BMT-20 works the way its name suggests: like binoculars. The subject raises the device to their face, touches the forehead bar just above the brows, and centres their eyes in the internal mirror. That is the entire instruction. From that point, the on-board dedicated image processor takes over — locating both irises, evaluating image quality, and completing simultaneous dual-iris capture in approximately 0.5 seconds. No operator input is required for the actual capture. Four external LEDs guide positioning in real time: red (too high), blue (too low), green (position is correct), and white (capture in progress). First-time users understand the feedback instantly, without language, which is exactly why the BMT-20 excels in multilingual, diverse-population enrollment programs.
The optics are where the BMT-20 sets itself apart from every competing binocular-type scanner. A patent-pending single-sensor optical design delivers the widest depth of capture in its class — 30 mm — combined with an interpupillary distance range of 40 to 90 mm. This means it accommodates the full spectrum of human eye geometry, from young children to adults, without any manual adjustment between subjects. The optical path distance of 350 to 380 mm gives subjects a natural, non-invasive experience. Dual-wavelength IR illumination (850 nm at ~60% and 750 nm at ~40%) captures fine iris texture under any ambient light condition, while an internal broadband visible LED triggers natural pupil contraction for sharper, higher-contrast images.
Security cannot be an afterthought in large-scale identity programs. The BMT-20 integrates CMITech's LiveEye anti-spoofing detection software, which actively distinguishes live eyes from photographs, printed materials, and artificial replicas — protecting the integrity of every enrollment and authentication event. The IP64-rated enclosure — dust-tight and splash-resistant, with no moving parts — protects the optics in field conditions ranging from dusty rural enrollment camps to busy urban service centres.
The device connects via USB 2.0 High Speed (500 mA at 5V, no external power needed) and is compatible with Windows 7/8/10 (32 and 64-bit), Linux Ubuntu 12.04/14.04/16.04 LTS, and Android 4.0 and above. It meets eye safety standards IEC 62471 and IEC 60825-1.
Certifications: STQC (India), CE, FCC, RoHS, WHQL, USB-IF, ISO 19794-6, IEC 62471, IEC 60825-1, IP64.
Applications: Aadhaar / UID enrollment, national identity programmes, border control and immigration, law enforcement and AFIS, e-government service centres, logical and physical access control, banking KYC, alien ID and refugee registration, military identification.
Product highlights
• Simultaneous dual iris capture in approximately 0.5 seconds — both irises captured in a single placement, cutting enrollment time in half compared to sequential single-iris readers
• Binocular form factor with simple raise-and-look operation — battle-tested in India's UID/Aadhaar programme on subjects of all ages, literacy levels, and biometric experience
• Industry's widest depth of field at 30 mm combined with 40–90 mm interpupillary distance range — accommodates every human eye geometry from children aged 5 to elderly adults without adjustment
• Real-time positioning LED system — Red (too high), Blue (too low), Green (correct position), White (capturing) — instant language-free guidance for both operators and self-service subjects
• LiveEye anti-spoofing software actively detects and rejects photographs, printed materials, and artificial eye replicas — protecting enrollment and authentication integrity at scale
• Exceeds ISO/IEC 19794-6 iris image quality standards with MTF >4.0 lp/mm at >60% contrast and 18.4–20 pixels/mm spatial resolution — optimised for large-scale de-duplication accuracy
• Dual-wavelength IR illumination (850 nm + 750 nm) combined with internal visible LED for pupil contraction — captures clean iris texture under any ambient lighting condition
• IP64-rated solid enclosure with no moving parts — dust-tight and splash-resistant for harsh field conditions including rural enrollment camps, border posts, and outdoor service centres
• STQC India certified alongside CE, FCC, RoHS, WHQL, USB-IF, IEC 62471, and IEC 60825-1 eye safety standards — fully compliant for government and enterprise deployment in India and globally
• USB 2.0 High Speed (500 mA at 5V) bus-powered operation — no external power adapter needed; compatible with Windows 7/8/10 (32 & 64-bit), Linux Ubuntu LTS, and Android 4.0 and above
