Flip for detailsSecurity-critical applications — banking, government identity, healthcare, and PKI — demand a smart card reader that performs without compromise, day after day. The ACS ACR39U is built precisely for that. A compact, USB-connected contact smart card reader engineered to meet the toughest requirements in e-banking, e-government, access control, and public key infrastructure, it replaces the older ACR38 series with significantly improved performance and a broader compliance stack.
At its core, the ACR39U reads and writes at up to 600 Kbps over a full-speed USB 2.0 interface (12 Mbps), covering every ISO 7816 Class A, B, and C smart card — operating at 5V, 3V, or 1.8V — with both T=0 and T=1 microprocessor card protocols. It also supports a wide range of memory cards including I2C, SLE44xx, and SLE54xx series, and works seamlessly with high-security credential cards including CAC (US Department of Defense Common Access Card), SIPRNET, and J-LIS (Japan). For PIV, PKI, digital signature, and logical/physical access control deployments, this covers every major card format in active use globally.
Durability is one of the ACR39U's most underrated strengths. The landing connector variant is rated for 200,000 card insertion cycles — double the typical industry standard — with an MTBF of 500,000 hours. This is hardware built to survive the high-volume, daily-use reality of bank teller stations, government service counters, hospital reception desks, and secure workstation environments.
Installation takes seconds. Fully compliant with PC/SC and CCID specifications, the ACR39U installs as a plug-and-play device on Windows (7 through 10, including Server editions), Linux, macOS, Solaris, and Android 3.1 and later — no custom driver work required in most environments. The Microsoft WHQL-certified driver ensures seamless deployment in managed enterprise Windows fleets. An optional SAM card slot (ISO 7816-compliant) allows hardware-level cryptographic key storage for deployments where maximum security is non-negotiable. Short-circuit protection on all pins guards the reader and connected systems against electrical faults.
The matte black, 65-gram body (72.2×69×14.5 mm) fits on any desk without drawing attention, and the 1.5-metre fixed USB cable gives comfortable reach across standard workstation setups.
